Celebrating the five year anniversary of The Shade

The Shade started out as a concept between two best friends with a love for 90’s House, Trance and Techno music. And sunglasses. Adopting the idea that visitors should wear their shadiest pair to the party and at the same time, the name refers to nighttime, which is in actuality one big earthly shade.

Gradually, The Shade became less about certain musical genres, but more so about a feeling, attempting to dress a space whenever the opportunity was there, choreographing a specific light scenography, providing a safer environment for dancing and the acceptance of all persons on the dance floor.

This reflected in the lineups as well, having focused on bringing female talent from the Netherlands in its earlier years, with Nelly, Lieke TR and DRKNGHTS, among others, and purposely securing queer slots, for instance with Violently Happy, Malo Z and Fais Le Beau, resulting in balanced lineups that reflect contemporary party culture. Others on the lineup have included EMILIJA, Doppelgang, Ben Kamal, Lilihell, Asian Sal, Livgloss, Olsvangèr and Shoplifter, all delivering legendary sets.

Now The Shade is celebrating its five year existence at one of their favourite venues in Antwerp, a place where they are free to curate a large open area and with multiple rooms to travel through: De Studio. This will be our biggest edition yet, with the biggest lineup to date.

Starting early with an all vinyl set by Ilias to get you in the mood, taking you further into the depths and adding the punch is Bambi, whereafter our resident Bayny will be engaging in a first time b2b session with S.A. Tweeman to get the party rolling. After that, the amazing eoin dj will grace us with a two hour set and we’ll be closing down a burning house with none other than Aroh.

The message is loud and clear: Come early, stay late. Wear shades.
