Dear Mother.
Or: dear mum.
I don't know.
We rarely wear our hearts on our sleeves.
We only recently ran into each other (again).
Up until now we went our separate ways, further and further away from each other.
This is what Neal Leemput wrote in a letter to his mother some time ago. Now he is making a performance about, with and for her. About what it means to be a son or a mother in the margin of, and in spite of, your own life. About the homosexual son of a single mother. And about the single mother of a homosexual son (in the otherwise so quiet village).
Neal Leemput is theatre maker and actor. His mother is not. She only wanted to participate provided she got a nice dress. That's been taken care of.
Dansen met mijn moeder played at the Love at first Sight festival in September 2020.
