“Jamie Lee Curtis gives her most complex performance to date as the reckless Megan, whose obsessive behaviour and over-reactions have more to do with turning the tables on violent men than balancing the scales of justice. Short on plausibility but preserving the psycho-sexual ambiguities throughout, Kathryn Bigelow's seductively stylish, wildy fetishistic thriller is proof that a woman can enter a traditionally male world and, like Megan, beat men at their own game.”

During her first day on the job, NYPD rookie Megan Turner (Jamie Lee Curtis) shoots an armed robber with her service revolver. However, afterwards no weapon is found on the crime scene and Megan is temporarily suspended. When a bullet is found with her name carved into it on a different murder scene, Megan is reinstated as a homicide detective. The crime turns out to be the first in a series of murders inexplicably linked to Megan. The only thing that becomes clear: the serial killer is unstable and obsessed with Megan.
