REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE

Jim Stark (James Dean) verhuist samen met zijn naar ouders naar Los Angeles. Al snel wordt hij opgepakt door de politie omdat hij dronken op straat rondhangt. Op het politiebureau ontmoet hij Plato (Sal Mineo) en Judy (Natalie Wood). Zij blijken bij hem op school te zitten en hij wordt al snel vrienden met Plato. Ook valt hij als een blok voor de mooie Judy, maar zij heeft al een vriend, Buzz. Jim and Buzz zijn meteen gezworen vijanden, van vechtpartijen tot autoraces. Het tijdloze personage van de wanhopige, onbegrepen tiener Jim in het banale Amerika van de jaren 1950 maakte van James Dean een tieneridool en een onsterfelijk culticoon. In Rays donkere, gebalde film belichaamt hij tot in de perfectie de onderdrukte verlangens van de toenmalige jeugd. Dean groeide, mede door zijn tragische dood, uit tot een mythisch icoon voor verscheidene generaties.
