Na het succes van de verfilming van DE ACHT BERGEN (Le Otto Montagne) keert Paolo Cognetti terug naar zijn geliefde berglandschap in de Italiaanse Alpen met Fiore Mio, een poëtische verkenning van de Monte Rosa en haar bewoners. Gefilmd door Ruben Impens, de vaste Vlaamse cameraman van Felix Van Groeningen, brengt Cognetti met weidse, verstilde beelden en een melancholische ondertoon zijn ode aan de kracht van de natuur en de zoektocht naar een authentiek bestaan.

Samen met zijn hond Laki doorkruist Cognetti het imposante bergmassief, waar hij in gesprek gaat met verschillende bewoners: een oude jeugdvriend, een berggids en een voormalige Nepalese sherpa. Hun ontmoetingen leiden tot mijmeringen over de schoonheid en uitdagingen van het leven in de bergen, maar ook over klimaatverandering, vriendschap en onvervulde dromen. Stapsgewijs zoeken ze naar een evenwicht tussen mens en natuur.

De Italiaanse auteur debuteert als regisseur en neemt ook de hoofdrol op zich hoofdpersonage. De productie balanceert tussen documentaire en speelfilm en biedt een adembenemende cinematografische ervaring. De wereldpremière vond plaats op het prestigieuze filmfestival van Locarno. Suzanne Simard beschrijft het treffend: "Fiore mio gaat niet over hoe we de berg kunnen redden. Het gaat erom hoe de berg ons kan redden."

Following the success of the film adaptation of THE EIGHT MOUNTAINS (Le Otto Montagne), Paolo Cognetti returns to his beloved mountain landscape in the Italian Alps with Fiore Mio, a poetic exploration of Monte Rosa and its inhabitants. Filmed by Ruben Impens, Felix Van Groeningen's regular Flemish cameraman, Cognetti brings his ode to the power of nature and the search for an authentic existence with wide, hushed images and melancholic undertones.

Together with his dog Laki, Cognetti traverses the imposing mountain, where he interacts with various inhabitants: an old childhood friend, a mountain guide and a former Nepalese sherpa. Their encounters lead to musings on the beauty and challenges of life in the mountains, as well as climate change, friendship and unfulfilled dreams. Step by step, they seek a balance between man and nature.

Making his debut as a director, the Italian author also takes on the lead character. Balancing between documentary and feature film, the production offers a breathtaking cinematic experience. It had its world premiere at the prestigious Locarno Film Festival. Suzanne Simard aptly describes it: ‘Fiore mio is not about how we can save the mountain. It's about how the mountain can save us.’
