Het is de laatste schooldag in een stadje in Texas in 1976. Iedereen probeert nog een laatste avontuurtje onder z’n riem te steken voordat de zomervakantie begint. De afstuderende studenten initiëren de nieuwe eerstejaars en iedereen probeert zo snel mogelijk stoned of dronken te worden. En natuurlijk staan de hormonen helemaal op springen.

Een van regisseur Richard Linklaters grote troeven is zijn talent om levensechte personages op het scherm te toveren, en dat is niet anders in deze memorabele coming-of-age uit zijn Austin-filmreeks. De luie lummels uit DAZED AND CONFUSED zouden zo uit eender welke middelbare school geplukt kunnen worden. De film gaat in se over niet veel, maar biedt een authentieke momentopname van een tijd en een plaats met een geweldige soundtrack. Én betekende de doorbraak van Texaan Matthew McConaughey. Alright, alright, alright.

It’s the last day of school in a Texan town in 1976. Everyone is trying to have one last adventure before the summer holiday starts. The graduating students haze the incoming freshmen, and everyone is trying to get a last fix – be it drugs, booze or getting laid. Raging hormones, keg parties and a sold-out Aerosmith concert are only a few of the obstacles on their path.

One of director Richard Linklater’s great strengths is creating true-to-life characters on the screen. And this is certainly the case in this memorable film from his Austin film series. The lazy teenagers from DAZED AND CONFUSED could have been picked from any high school. The film is mostly about nothing, but offers an authentic look at a moment in time with an amazing soundtrack. The movie also counts as Texan Matthew McConaughey’s big break. Alright, alright, alright.
