“So you’re a woman.” “So you’re a bitch.” Zo groeten Wonder Woman (Anita Mui) en Thief Catcher (Maggie Cheung) elkaar in THE HEROIC TRIO. Het heldhaftige trio wordt vervolmaakt door Invisible Woman (Michelle Yeoh). De vrouwen staan in het begin van de film lijnrecht tegenover elkaar. Invisible Woman steelt pasgeboren jongetjes voor haar Evil Master. Wonder Woman probeert de kidnappings te voorkomen en opportunistische premiejager Thief Catcher verkoopt informatie aan de politie. Maar al snel moeten de drie rivalen samenwerken om de straten van Hong Kong weer veilig te maken.

Met THE HEROIC TRIO creëerden regisseur Johnnie To, martial arts choreograaf Ching Siu-tung (ook bekend van HERO en HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS) en de drie legendarische leading ladies iets wat Hong Kong cinema niet eerder had: een eigen filmisch superheldenuniversum. The third of the trio is made up of Invisible Woman (Michelle Yeoh). The women are diametrically opposed at the beginning of the film. Invisible Woman steals newborn boys for her Evil Master. Wonder Woman tries to prevent the kidnappings and opportunist bounty hunter Thief Catcher sells information to the police. But soon the three rivals have to band together to save Hong Kong from its demise.
