KILL BILL: VOL. 1

Maar wanneer je hele wereld aan diggelen wordt geslagen, vergeet je niet wat je pad is: wraak.

Als er iemand is die wraak verdient, dan is het the Bride (Uma Thurman). Als voormalig lid van de Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, geleid door Bill, staat ze op het punt om een nieuw leven te starten. Op de vooravond van haar huwelijk worden de geliefden van the Bride afgeslacht door de Deadly Vipers en krijgt zij een kogel in het hoofd, terwijl ze hoogzwanger is. Wanneer ze vier jaar later uit een coma ontwaakt en ontdekt dat ze niet langer zwanger is, vuurt dat die wraakgedachten enkel aan. Je ziet het in haar ogen, leest het op haar gezicht: this bride will kill Bill. Maar eerst heeft ze de juiste instrumenten nodig. Dat brengt haar naar Okinawa, thuisbasis van legendarische zwaardsmid Hattori Hanzo.

Quentin Tarantino en Uma Thurman bedachten het personage van the Bride tijdens de productie van PULP FICTION. De plot en look werden sterk beïnvloed door de Japanse wraakfilm LADY SNOWBLOOD (ook op ons programma!) en de indrukwekkende martial arts scènes werden gechoreografeerd door Yuen Woo-Ping, die o.a. de gevechtschoreografie deed voor THE MATRIX en CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (ook op ons programma!). Zoë Bell was Thurmans stuntdubbel. 
Onder druk van (de nu veroordeelde zedendelinquent) producer Harvey Weinstein werd de film in twee delen opgedeeld. Weinstein stond bekend voor het dwingen van filmmakers om hun films in te korten, maar door de film op te delen moest Tarantino geen scènes verwijderen en dus niet inboeten aan personageontwikkeling.

KILL BILL: VOL. 1 & 2 worden na elkaar vertoond op zaterdag 10.05, op 35mm! Van Tarantino tonen we in onze (S)HEROES-focus ook JACKIE BROWN en DEATH PROOF, eveneens op 35mm.

But when you’re world is shattered, you won’t forget your path.

If there’s anyone deserving of revenge, it’s the Bride (Uma Thurman). As a former member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, led by Bill, she’s ready to start a new life. On the eve of her wedding, the Bride’s loved-ones are slaughtered by the Deadly Vipers and she gets a bullet to the head, while being heavily pregnant. When she wakes up from a coma four years later and discovers she’s no longer pregnant, this only incites her feelings of revenge. You can see his in her eyes, read it on her face: this bride will kill Bill. But first she needs the right tools. This brings her to Okinawa, home to the legendary swordsmith Hattori Hanzo. 

Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman thought up the character of the Bride during the production of PULP FICTION. The plot and look were influenced by revenge movie LADY SNOWBLOOD (on our programme as well!) and the impressive martial arts sequences were choreographed by Yuen Woo-Ping, who was also the fight advisor on THE MATRIX and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (on our programme as well!). Zoë Bell worked as Uma Thurman’s stunt double. 
Pressured by (the now convicted sex offender) producer Harvey Weinstein, the movie was divided in two parts. Weinstein was known for forcing filmmakers to shorten their films, but by splitting into two parts, Tarantino was able to keep most of the scenes and saved the Bride’s character development.

KILL BILL: VOL. 1 & 2 are screened on Saturday 10.05 ,on 35mm! In our (S)HEROES-focus we also screen Tarantino’s JACKIE BROWN and DEATH PROOF, on 35mm as well.
