De wereldberoemde orkestdirigent Sir Alfred de Carter (Rex Harrison) wordt geplaagd door ideeën dat zijn jongere vrouw Daphne (Linda Darnell) ontrouw is. Hij fantaseert en componeert drie wraakscenario’s voor het verdachte overspel en deze worden begeleid op muziek door zijn symfonieorkest. Maar wanneer hij zijn fantasieën in het echt wil uitwerken, leidt dat tot een hoop problemen.

Regisseur Preston Sturges hanteert screwball comedy elementen om zijn hilarische plot te combineren met relevante muziek. Elke fantasiescène wordt begeleid door een muziekstuk dat de sfeer capteert (Rossini, Wagner en Tsjaikovski) en Rex Harrison speelt in deze scènes ook samen met echte orkestmuzikanten. In UNFAITHFULLY YOURS kon Linda Darnell eindelijk haar komische talent laten zien. Darnell acteert met de kleinste nuances in dictie en mimiek om de fantasierijke droomscenario’s van haar jaloerse echtgenoot (lichtjes) plausibel te maken. The world-renowned orchestra conductor Sir Alfred de Carter (Rex Harrison) is plagued by ideas that his younger wife Daphne (Linda Darnell) is unfaithful. He dreams up three revenge scenarios for the suspected affair and composes music to them. The music is played by his symphony orchestra. But when he tries to act out his fantasies in the real world, it leads to a lot of trouble.

Director Preston Sturges uses screwball comedy elements to combine his hilarious plot with relevant music. Each dream scenario is accompanied by a musical piece which captures the atmosphere (Rossini, Wagner, Tsjaikovski) and in those scenes Rex Harrison acts with real orchestra musicians. In UNFAITHFULLY YOURS, Linda Darnell was finally able to show off her comedic talent. Darnell acts with the slightest nuances in diction and facial expression to make the fanciful dream scenarios of her jealous husband (slightly) more plausible. The film is part of our ode to the unforgettable Hollywood actress Linda Darnell.
