The discovery of a severed human ear leads a young man (Kyle MacLachlan) to the beautiful, mysterious nightclub singer Dorothy Valens (Isabella Rossellini). The man is sucked deeper and deeper into the dark underworld in which Dorothy is held prisoner and also gets to know the sadomasochist Frank Booth (a demonic Dennis Hopper), who is holding her captive. BLUE VELVET explores the contrast between purity and depravity in a sharp satire of the suburban American Dream.
