Wuthering Heights is gebaseerd op de gelijknamige romanklassieker van Emily Brontë. Het is de eerste van Andrea Arnolds films die ze niet zelf schreef, hoewel ze mee het scenario adapteerde.

The young and poor Heathcliff is taken in by the family Earnshaw. He feels strongly attracted to their daughter Catherine, who shows him the beautiful sides of the rough country life. A silent, fierce love develops between them. But Heathcliff’s background hinders their relationship. When he returns years later as a wealthy lord, he tries to win Catherine’s affections once again. Their forbidden love grows into an obsession.
WUTHERING HEIGHTS is based on the romantic classic novel of the same name by Emily Brontë. It is the first of Andrea Arnold’s films which isn’t an original screenplay, although she did adapt the screenplay of the film herself.
